Homeschool Music

Homeschool GCSE & A-Level Music

Home-educated students can study the full GCSE or A-Level Music qualification from home, taught one-to-one online, with complete support across performance, composition and listening, and guidance on arranging exam entry as a private candidate.

How It Works

Sitting Music exams as a private candidate

Home-educated students take GCSE and A-Level Music as private candidates. Here is what that involves, and how I help at each step.

01

We teach the full course online

One-to-one lessons cover every component of your chosen board's specification, with a learning portal for recordings, resources and homework between sessions.

02

We prepare the coursework

Music includes non-exam assessment, a performance and a composition, produced to the board's brief and mark scheme. I guide your child through both from first idea to finished submission.

03

You enter through an exam centre

Private candidates sit the written listening paper and submit coursework through an exam centre. I help you find and coordinate with a suitable centre, and confirm it accepts Music with its coursework.

04

Your child sits the exam

With teaching, coursework and centre all lined up, your child completes the qualification with confidence, from home.

The Thing To Check First

Not every exam centre accepts Music

Because Music includes coursework, some private-candidate centres only take exam-only subjects. The key early step is finding a centre that accepts Music, including its performance and composition. If you already have a centre for other subjects, it is worth checking this with them, and I am happy to help you identify a suitable one.
